Investing in Canada for Healthier People, Stronger Communities and a More Resilient Economy

Investing in health means investing in the health of communities and its people.

New research by Shift Health, using economic modelling from Statistics Canada, shows Roche Canada generated $7.83B in total economic impact between 2021 and 2025. Behind every dollar is a patient diagnosed sooner, a trial that brought a new treatment to Canada and a job that kept talent in Canada.

Canadians are living through a period of significant economic uncertainty and pressure, from trade tensions to global headwinds facing the industries that sustain local economies. In moments like these, stable, long-term investment matters. Even amid these pressures, healthcare continues to be one of Canadians’ top priorities, a signal that investment, continued innovation and improvement in the sector remains a necessity.

$7.83B in total economic impact over the last five years (2021–2025), including $5.88B to Ontario and $981.7M to Quebec.

As a global leader in innovative medicines and diagnostics, Roche has called Canada home since 1931, discovering, developing, and delivering medicines and diagnostics that meaningfully improve the health and lives of thousands of Canadians. Global companies like Roche are essential partners in Canada’s life sciences ecosystem, and that commitment has only deepened as the economic landscape has grown more complex.

  • 2,000: Roche Canada employs nearly 2,000 people at its offices in Mississauga, Ontario, in Laval, Quebec, and across the country.

  • 31,000: Supported 31,000 cumulative FTE jobs, generating ripple effects across 27 industries over five years.

  • $1.57: For every dollar of direct added value created by Roche Canada, a total GDP impact of $1.57 was generated for the Canadian economy.

  • Funded $2.4M to Quebec’s BioPortal: accelerates Canada’s transition to data-driven healthcare by bridging genomic research and personalized patient care.

  • Catalyzed Ontario’s Universal Agreement for Clinical Trials: slashed administrative red tape to speed up trial start-ups and position Canada as a premier global research destination.

  • Partnered with the University of Alberta: removing hidden barriers to clinical trial participation so research better reflects patients, while helping catalyze Canada’s first Indigenous Clinical Trials Unit.

These numbers and examples represent more than economic output, they’re proof that when you invest in health, you invest in people, communities, and economic resilience. At a time when economic pressures are mounting, Roche continues to invest in Canada, sustaining and supporting the people and the economy that depend on a strong life sciences sector in Canada.
