April 25, 2025 (Edmonton, Alberta) The Alberta Cancer Foundation and Hoffmann-La Roche Limited (Roche Canada) have announced a new partnership that will see the global life sciences company redirect $1 million of its investment with the Foundation towards new programs in Cancer Care Alberta that will directly impact the lives of Albertans facing cancer.

This investment will target three specific areas of focus in Alberta:

  • Supporting the work of cancer tumour teams, creating additional opportunities to share clinical learnings, collaborate and share information on research initiatives, and identifying opportunities to evolve their practice.

  • Collaborating on Alberta’s groundbreaking Precision Analytics program, which will harness the power of artificial intelligence and machine learning to reduce wait times, model new approaches to care and optimize the work of cancer care teams.

  • Launching a cancer innovation challenge to support projects that remove barriers to care, evolve the cancer care system and improve patient outcomes. This challenge aims to translate novel ideas into reality within the cancer ecosystem.

“We are fortunate to have such a long-standing partnership with Roche Canada and are incredibly grateful they’ve chosen to make this significant reinvestment in cancer care, right here in Alberta,” said Wendy Beauchesne, CEO of the Alberta Cancer Foundation. “This will ignite our cancer research and care teams to do what they do best — be curious and drive change.”

"At Roche Canada, we recognize the power of collaboration in addressing patient needs and driving meaningful change for Canadians," said Brigitte Nolet, President and CEO, Roche Pharma Canada. "Our partnership with the Alberta Cancer Foundation and Cancer Care Alberta will have a ripple effect — strengthening our healthcare systems, boosting economic growth and improving outcomes for patients."

Roche Canada’s previous commitment to the Alberta Cancer Foundation enabled translational impact to be made in the areas of thoracis, palliative care and breast cancer research. This reinvestment broadens that impact and will address the future of cancer care – today.

“We're so grateful for this support from Roche Canada and the Alberta Cancer Foundation – it truly strengthens Cancer Care Alberta's work,” said Brenda Hubley, Chief Program Officer with Cancer Care Alberta. “It means our dedicated teams can collaborate more easily and use information to improve cancer care experiences. We can spark innovation, ultimately helping more Albertans facing cancer live longer, better lives.”
