Volunteer Board Position Available: Soaring with Roche Governance Board Member

 

Soaring with Roche is Roche Canada’s commitment to accelerating meaningful progress in health by harnessing the power of community and open innovation. We are seeking two Governance Board members, as follows:

 

  1. One Inuit, First Nations or Métis member to represent I/FN/M communities
  2. One patient/caregiver member to represent the patient/caregiver population in Canada

 

Who are we looking for?

The following qualities are of high importance for us as we recruit these two important Board members:

 

Qualifications and Skills - I/FN/M Member

  • Lived experience - you have experienced the Canadian healthcare system and can represent Indigenous communities at large (vs a specific community)
  • Knowledge of the healthcare system in Canada, with depth of knowledge regarding the colonization of healthcare and education in Canada
  • Strategic thinker with strong communication skills and the ability to question and challenge; decision making; problem solving
  • Innovative with forward vision; open to new approaches; collaborative
  • Implementer with a passion for action and experimentation
  • Passion - to be the Indigenous voice as we redefine health and healthcare together

 

Qualifications and Skills - Patient/Caregiver Member

  • Lived experience - you have experienced the Canadian healthcare system as either a patient or a caregiver, and within reason, can represent these communities at large (vs a specific community)
  • Knowledge of the healthcare system in Canada
  • Strategic thinker with strong communication skills and the ability to question and challenge; decision making; problem solving
  • Innovative with forward vision; open to new approaches; collaborative
  • Implementer with a passion for action and experimentation
  • Passion - to be the voice of patients/caregivers as we redefine health and healthcare together

 

Governance Board Overview (Intentional design to support and steer innovation):

 

Members: The Governance Board will be made up of nine members with representation from community and/or expertise in systemic change, health systems, policy shaping, future relevant trends and innovations, and purpose driven private sector innovation. The first function of the Governance Board will be to finalize and approve the proposed governance framework.

 

Frequency of meetings: Monthly (Q1-Q2 of 2022), Quarterly (Q3-Q4); frequency of meetings will be more often during the first quarter of this year as we come up to speed.

 

Mandate (to be finalized when the Board is formed): 

  • Approve and oversee the relevant long-term strategy for Soaring with Roche
  • Adopt and adhere to Soaring with Roche principles
  • Provide suggestions to the Operational Committee open challenges and relevant partnerships
  • Guide validation of problem space for policy shaping, and solutions
  • Ensure accountability with the Operational Committee to enable quality, commitment and excellence in the Soaring with Roche program
  • Act as final decision-maker on challenge participants

 

Estimated Time Commitment: Three hours per month

What are the key actions of the board? The critical action of the Governance Board is to ensure adherence of the program to its principles and goals by making informed and strategic decisions.

 

What is the time commitment for members? Governance Board members should expect to dedicate up to 3 hours per month to the program. This includes joining the monthly meeting and completing any required pre-reads.

 

What is the term length? Term lengths are expected to be 12-18 months. As we are just launching the program, term lengths will vary by board member to ensure the board does not change over completely at a specific time. Board members will be expected to commit to a minimum of 12 months, with a one-month notice period to accommodate handovers.

 

Will I be compensated for my time? The position is completely voluntary and will receive no compensation, nor is the person in the position entitled to reimbursement of expenses incurred as related to their involvement. No Governance Board members will be compensated in any way.
