Improvements in earlier diagnosis and treatment advances have changed the way cancer is managed. The landscape in Canada continues to evolve with the introduction of new therapies, such as immunotherapy, and with this progress comes new challenges as our healthcare system adapts. Innovative solutions are needed to improve the experience of patients facing a cancer diagnosis.
In 2017, we launched the Rewrite Cancer Innovation Challenge with a goal of bringing together the oncology community to develop possible solutions to address common issues faced by Canadian patients as we enter this new era of cancer care.
The inaugural Challenge statement was designed to find ways to facilitate better knowledge transfer and collaboration between healthcare teams to improve the patient experience. Teams were invited to submit an idea for an opportunity to partner with Roche to bring their project to life. We received a wide range of entries from multi-disciplinary teams across Canada such as unique teaching tools for healthcare providers, patient information packages, and virtual multidisciplinary conferences, to name a few.
The Rewrite Cancer Steering Committee reviewed the many innovative ideas and we are pleased to announce that two submissions were selected as winners and we will now work with the teams to see their ideas realized.
Congratulations to our 2017 winners and thank you to everyone who participated! We look forward to launching the 2018 Challenge later this year and you can sign up to receive updates on the Rewrite Cancer website. Together we can strive to create change for a better future for cancer care.
