Employees in the Community
In 2008, our pharmaceuticals division embarked on a three-year national philanthropic partnership with Breakfast for Learning (BFL), a not-for-profit organization that helps communities start and sustain successful school nourishment programs. The partnership is a perfect fit for Roche Canada because it focuses on children, their health and well-being, and the effect that hunger has on their ability to learn and develop socially.
Breakfast for Learning brings together public, private and volunteer sectors to provide nutritious food in caring, family-centred programs across Canada. In addition to an annual corporate donation, many Roche employees volunteer their time and plan activities to raise much needed additional funds for BFL's school programs.
Our diagnostics division strives to maintain its commitment to people outside its walls by supporting local community agencies within Centraide du Grand Montréal. This is achieved though a corporate donation, fundraising activities and by organizing a campaign through many generous employee donations. Centraide works to help people who are experiencing poverty in all its forms (economic, cultural and social), which leads to isolation, distress and other problems.
Each year, our employees participate in the global Roche Children's Walk to raise funds to support children at risk. Roche matches the total amount of money collected through donations to assist projects for vulnerable children in Malawi, Africa. Each Roche affiliate around the globe may donate up to 50% of the money raised to a local organization that benefits vulnerable children in local communities. Our pharmaceutical division has donated funds from previous Children's Walks to Canadian not-for-profit organizations, such as the Philip Aziz Centre and Breakfast for Learning.
