Employees in the Community
In 2015, our pharmaceuticals division embarked on a philanthropic partnership with two principal charitable organizations: Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada and Habitat for Humanity Greater Toronto Area.
The Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada is a national organization committed to improving the lives of abused and neglected children by funding programs in the areas of education, enrichment and prevention. It supports the individual needs of children before, during and after they leave the care of child welfare agencies. The Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada raises funds from individuals, corporations and other foundations and provides grants to the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto, other child welfare organizations across Canada, and child-focused community groups.
Habitat for Humanity Greater Toronto Area (Habitat GTA) is a non-profit housing organization that mobilizes volunteers and community partners to provide affordable housing and promote homeownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty. It welcomes all people without discrimination to join them in building simple, decent, and affordable homes in partnership with low-income families. By owning their own home, families are able to achieve greater stability, and improve their overall health, while building equity for their future.
In 2016, Roche expanded its corporate philanthropy efforts by supporting a third principal charity.
Located in Milton, Ontario, the Darling Home for Kids provides high-quality respite and palliative care services for children who are medically fragile and technology dependent, many of whom suffer from progressive illness. The Darling Home for Kids offers numerous therapeutic programs to meet the physical development, psychological, and spiritual needs of the children they service e.g. art therapy, hydrotherapy, music therapy, pet therapy, and multi-sensory Snoezelen therapy.
Our diagnostics division strives to maintain its commitment to people outside its walls by supporting local community agencies within Centraide du Grand Montréal. This is achieved though a corporate donation, fundraising activities and by organizing a campaign through many generous employee donations. Centraide works to help people who are experiencing poverty in all its forms (economic, cultural and social), which leads to isolation, distress and other problems.
Each year, our employees participate in the global Roche Children's Walk to raise funds to support children at risk. Roche matches the total amount of money collected through donations to assist projects for vulnerable children in Malawi, Africa. Each Roche affiliate around the globe may donate up to 50% of the money raised to a local organization that benefits vulnerable children in local communities.
