Northern Health launches new analyzers and laboratory solution

Northern Health laboratories will benefit from increased equipment standardization and integration with the successful launch of new modular robotic analyzers at Prince George Regional Hospital. Themodular, automated system is the first of its kind in Western Canada.

These state of the art analyzers and a modular robotic line will increase testing capacity for the whole region,” said Prince George-Mackenzie MLA-elect Pat Bell.

The new equipment at unveiled and demonstrated today at PGRH is part of a $1.4 million total Laboratory solution from Roche Diagnostics, including chemistry, immunochemistry and Point-of-Care (bedside) testing.

“As a referral site for Northern Health, the Prince George Regional Hospital laboratory can now run a wide variety of blood tests by using the latest and most advanced analytical equipment on the market,” said Prince George-Valemount MLA-elect Shirley Bond.

Funding for the new equipment came from the Government of British Columbia’s capital allocation to Northern Health.

“The automated line, or modular robotic line connected to the new analyzers provides us with tremendous testing capacity,” said Ken Winnig, Regional Director of Diagnostic Services. “This will improve the laboratory efficiency and streamline the workflow for staff.“

The new equipment and the standardization across the region will create efficiencies, improve comparability of results from laboratory to laboratory and generate savings by ensuring best price policies throughout the region.

“We are very proud to partner with Northern Health and the Prince George Regional Hospital laboratory to showcase the latest technology in laboratory integration,” said Christopher Parker, President and General Manager of Roche Diagnostics in Canada. “This new laboratory equipment, together with a comprehensive software system, linking laboratories in the Northern Health region, ensures enhanced testing efficiency while delivering the highest quality patient results.

” PGRH’s chemistry department annually conducts nearly two million diagnostic laboratory tests.
