In business in Canada for more than 75 years
For more than 115 years Roche has played a pioneering role in healthcare. F. Hoffmann-La Roche & Co. was founded in 1896 in Basel, Switzerland by Fritz Hoffmann-La Roche, an entrepreneur in branded pharmaceutical products.
From the very beginning, Fritz Hoffmann-La Roche attached great importance to product information as the link between the pharmaceutical manufacturer and doctors, pharmacists and patients. He was among the first to recognize that the industrial manufacture of standardized medicines would be a major advance in the fight against disease.
Roche first entered the field of diagnostics in 1968. Thirty years later, with the 1998 acquisition and integration of Boehringer Mannheim, one of the world's diagnostics leaders, Roche became the largest in vitro diagnostics company in the healthcare industry.
Roche Canada was founded in 1931 in Montreal, Quebec and relocated its pharmaceuticals head office to Mississauga in 1990. Its diagnostics head office is based in Laval, Quebec.
